I remember when I was a kid trying to say awake until midnight so everyone in my house could shout happy NEW YEAR. Now as a mature 52 year old I will be luck to make it past 10:00 p.m.!
Every year we would make New Years Resolutions, goals we set because we did not accomplish them in the previous year. You know the usual ones, I’m going to lose weight, I’m going to join a gym, I’m going to read more, the the list is endless of all the things we can choose to self improve. Did you also make promises to God? I will go to church more often, I will read my bible more, I will go to bible study. Question? How did that work out for you in 2021??
I have a challenge for you LZBC. Three simple challenges for 2022.
- For those of you who have not been back to the house of the Lord due to Covid-19 concerns. I challenge you to get up and get dressed and come join the fellowship at least two times in 2022. If we can go EVERY where else we want, why do we still use Covid-19 as the excuse not to come to the church. (think about it, pray about it)
- Speak to one person and tell them how good God has been to you in 2021. Think outside your comfort zone. Of course you should share this with your spouse and kids, but reach out to the unbelievers or those who are on the fence and could use an encouraging word. (think about it, pray about it)
- Pray to God that in 2022 that He builds you up into what He wants you to be. Let’s stop focusing on new years resolutions of how we can change ourselves and ask God into our lives.
There is a song by DeWayne Woods – Let Go. Search YouTube, ask Alexa or Siri and listen to the song. My favorite part says “as soon as I stop worrying, worrying how the story ends I let go and I let God, Let God have his way. That’s when things start happening, when I stopped looking at back then, I let go and let God, let God have His way.”
