I don’t know about you but this year is off to a fast start. Seems like only yesterday that it was New Years day and suddenly we are two days from February!
February is Black History Month –
Black History Month 2022 Theme
Since 1976, every American president has designated February as Black History Month and endorsed a specific theme.
The Black History Month 2022 theme, “Black Health and Wellness,” explores “the legacy of not only Black scholars and medical practitioners in Western medicine, but also other ways of knowing (e.g., birth workers, doulas, midwives, naturopaths, herbalists, etc.) throughout the African Diaspora. The 2022 theme considers activities, rituals and initiatives that Black communities have done to be well.”
First thing I had to do was look up “African Diaspora”. Disasora: the dispersion of any people from their original homeland. I also remembered what I had forgotten, that Black History Month has a theme. While you are killing a few hours on Tik Tok, Instagram, Snapchat, or Facebook, take a moment and google – James McCune Smith.
We have the opportunities for better health and wellness as a community. I encourage you to take some time to pay attention to your health. Your physical and mental health. We are the best advocates for our own health. Don’t be afraid to ask your doctor questions and don’t be afraid to give honest answers. Questions and answers have saved the life of my wife, my children and myself.
Use the resources that God has given you.
